Komatsu' horizontal diesel engines are used in rail cars, a field in which their durability and reliability have been highly acclaimed. These engines have won an overwhelmingly large share of sales to companies in the Japan Railway group, as well as to semi-private railways. Komatsu has developed engines equipped with torque converters and hydraulic equipment to achieve the highest possible efficiency. Komatsu's engines are also widely used to power locomotives.
